CT Scan: May 2009

Here's a sampling of my CT Scan that I had in late May. We already knew from the March MRI that I had polycystic kidney and liver disease. But these are the first images I've actually gotten to see of them. Lovely.

Please note that I have no exact idea what I'm looking at except for what the surgeon Dr G pointed out to me when he showed me a slice back in early June. I didn't even take Biology in school! So hope I'm point out the right stuff - I'm getting quite the anatomy lesson these days. I'd really like for a doc to draw on me with a sharpie where everything is so when it hurts I know what it is!

The scans apparently also showed a kidney stone in the right kidney but really have no idea where that bugger shows up. I looked thru all 250 or so slices and other than a couple white dots that may or may not be it, I really have no idea.

One slice of the CT scan without the contrast dye in me yet. The left side of the image is my right side as you are looking up from my feet. The top of the image is my belly.
Best I can tell the liver is on top, kidneys are sort of middle to bottom on either side of the white blob in the middle (that's my spine I think and it's angled due to my lovely scoliosis). The white blob up on the right side of the image is part of the stomach with that white goop mess I had to drink in it. Not all the spots on the liver and kidneys. Yeah, that's the cysts. Wanna count them? Yeah, me neither. The ones at the top of the image in the center I can actually FEEL those - it's a hard spot in my belly that my GP felt and hence sent me for the CT. We knew that I was cystic but didn't know THAT'S what we were feeling.

 • These next slices will always be with the contrast dye in so the cysts will be more visible.
This one is mostly liver I think. Unless it and the right kidney are running together.
 • Liver and both kidneys. Swiss cheese.
 • Liver and both kidneys. CRAZY.
 • Towards the bottom of the slices - both liver and kidneys are still covered in cysts. Check out that one on the right which I'm guessing is in the kidney. NICE.
 • More cysts in everything.
 • This is a horizontal slice and is mostly the liver. That's part of my intestines on the lower right hand corner. Oh, and above the liver center-right? I think that's my heart getting it's picture taken too!
 • And a last horizontal shot - part of the liver and both kidneys. Again with the swiss cheese. You can also see part of the spine and my nice curvature.
